About Meraki

Our Practice:

Planning with Purpose and Collaboration

Established in 2016, Meraki Community Planning is a female owned and operated, boutique planning consultant practice supporting Indigenous communities and municipalities in advancing land-centred, community-led planning.

We believe planning is relational work — rooted in land, community, and responsibility to future generations. We listen before advising and approach planning as stewardship.

Grounded in Relationships. Focused on Impact.

Our work is guided by values that shape how we show up, listen, and partner with communities and organizations.

Land Centred

We believe planning begins with a deep understanding of place. By respecting the relationship between people, land, and future generations, we help create plans that reflect local values and support long-term stewardship.

Relationship-Based

Strong planning is built on trust. We invest in meaningful relationships, listen with intention, and work together to create processes that are respectful, inclusive, and grounded in shared understanding.

Community-Led

The best ideas come from the people who know their communities best. We design planning processes that elevate local voices, strengthen capacity, and support decisions shaped by community priorities.

Future-Focused

Planning is about creating lasting value. We help communities and organizations make thoughtful decisions today that strengthen resilience, adaptability, and well-being for generations to come.

Planning with Purpose

We work alongside communities to strengthen planning, build local capacity, and create practical strategies that reflect each community’s unique values, aspirations, and relationship with the land.
We support:
  • Nation-led planning, including land use, housing, stewardship, and community strategies
  • Municipal policy, planning, and development frameworks
  • Rural and remote communities with approaches tailored to local realities and capacity
  • Inclusive community engagement that builds trust and strengthens relationships
  • Local capacity building through mentorship, collaboration, and knowledge sharing
  • Grant writing to help secure funding for planning and implementation
  • Sustainable planning that balances environmental stewardship, cultural priorities, and community wellbeing

We intentionally take on a limited number of projects each year, allowing us to build strong relationships and deliver thoughtful, lasting results.

What our clients are saying:

“Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today and once again for your work to secure the funding to ensure the daycares viability. It has honestly been life changing for us as a family unit and I know many other parents and caregivers that share the same opinion and collective daily relief when we drop our children off at the building that was secured by the grant. That space is now filled with laughter, love and memories due to the dedication of the team that has created the most wonderful environment for the most precious and vulnerable members of our society.”

Award of Excellence

Meraki Community Planning was honoured to receive the 2021 Inclusionary Planning National Award of Excellence from the Canadian Institute of Planners. The award recognized our inclusionary, client-centred approach to Indigenous planning and our long-standing relationship with Kitselas First Nation, reflecting our commitment to respectful, collaborative, and community-led planning.

The work highlights the importance of community-led planning that supports Indigenous self-determination and strengthens planning practices beyond colonial approaches.
