Kitselas First Nation
Leadership and Professional Mentorship
Meraki partnered with Kitselas First Nation to build long-term planning capacity by mentoring and supporting the Nation’s Lands Planner and Planning Clerk throughout the development of the Nation’s Land Use Plan. Through ongoing coaching, leadership development, and hands-on project experience, the mentorship emphasized technical planning skills, facilitation, project management, community engagement, strategic thinking, and professional confidence.
By embedding mentorship within a complex, real-world planning project, staff were empowered to take on increasing leadership roles and responsibility, contributing to both successful project delivery and significant career advancement. The result was stronger internal planning capacity, confident emerging leaders, and a nationally recognized Land Use Plan that received the 2021 Canadian Institute of Planners Award of Excellence for Inclusionary Planning.
