Gitselasu Ga̱lts’a̱p Lak Yuup S’gaanhawn

We were pleased to support the Kitselas people with the development of a Land Use Plan to guide land and resource management for all Kitselas lands (90,000+ acres). The Plan, named the ‘Gitselasu Ga̱lts’a̱p Lak Yuup S’gaanhawn’ by the community, defines what can and cannot take place on Kitselas land and identifies land use goals and recommendations to implement over the next 20 years. The Plan is an important guiding document for Kitselas Land pre-Treaty and post-Treaty.

The focus of this plan is on lands that will become Treaty Settlement Land through the Treaty process and lands that Kitselas already owns/will own regardless of Treaty.  The plan is intended to be a guide for land management of all Kitselas Land, including any land they may acquire, or have already acquired, outside of the Treaty process, such as fee simple lands under another jurisdiction.

While this plan has more of a land development focus to identify economic development opportunities and constraints, it also recognizes other values that may be equally or more important to Kitselas such as stewardship, resource, cultural and agricultural values.
