The Project

The Kitselas Treaty Department hired Meraki to develop a Master Plan for the Gitselasu (Usk) Lands, 407 acres of Incremental Treaty Land that will be officially transferred to Kitselas post-Treaty. The project was identified as one of many 'actions' in the Community Lands Plan (Ga̱lts’a̱p Lak Yuup S’gaanha) project as was the development of Master Plans for other Kitselas Incremental Treaty Agreement Land with development potential.

The Gitselasu Plan is an important land use planning and development document that provides direction for future development and environmental protection of the lands. Information uncovered during the planning process resulted in a new, conservation focus as part of the Master Plan and a close working relationship between Meraki (as the liaison for Kitselas) and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine. The resulting Plan will not only be an important guide for Kitselas for future land use and development decision-making, but the Regional District will use it to inform zoning and Official Community Plan amendments in the surrounding area.
